One year after the passing of our dear master Gustavo Esteva, his friend and colleague Franco Augusto Iacomella shares with us this interview he did with him at the end of 2019. Until now it was only partially available in text form, in a special edition of Magisterio Magazine 2020 (available in Spanish here: https://evo.re/magisterio).

Gustavo shares with us his critical look at the very idea of education and other related key concepts; Ivan Illich’s take on it; his critique of Paulo Freire’s thinking; alternatives in the context of the “ongoing insurrection”; hope as a social force; and international efforts to weave the multiple alternatives into the so-called “Global Tapestry of Alternatives”.

Gustavo’s legacy continues in the hundreds of seeds and friendships he was able to cultivate.
