The Swadharma program is a response to the call for an education for current times, times that demand people who are capable of creative, holistic and innovative thinking, people who are self-aware, and whose identity is grounded in their relationship to the whole. Overcoming these challenges requires the passionate commitment and engagement of young people. The Swadharma programme has been developed by the Auroville Campus Initiative (ACI), the department of further learning of the Sri Aurobindo International Institute of Educational Research (SAIIER) Auroville. SAIIER possesses a unique potential for research and experimentation in education. The research teams are composed of dedicated volunteers from different countries and cultural backgrounds. There are more than 200 researchers working under its umbrella. Auroville is an international community of around 2800 people from 53 nations building a universal township near Pondicherry in South India. Today Auroville is recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with – and practically researching into -sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind.
